Introduction to Sessions

Hands Only provides intensive courses in Auslan for deaf children and their families from birth to beginning school (0-5/6 years old).

Our focus is on communication and conversation between the deaf child and their family in context.

 

Sessions are for parents, extended family and children; sometimes together and sometimes individually, depending on your needs.

Sessions are suitable for any age and stage. What we do will depend on who is available and how quickly they learn.

If you have more then one deaf child or more than 2 children to be involved in sessions, please contact me to negotiate a special price.

Our services

Classes can run for four with each session lasting between 1 and 2 hours. This allows time for getting to know each other, a mix of fun activities and focused learning allowing for varied levels of concentration, drink and toilet breaks, questions and addressing specific concerns.

Session options:

  • 1 session zoom (1 hour)
  • 1 session face to face in the home (2 hour minimum booking)

It is possible that I will be travelling to states other than NSW. If you live in another state, let me know if you would be interested in meeting me and working face to face with your deaf child at some time in the future.

 

Sessions are available in your home or online via Zoom. Zoom sessions are more suited to adults and older children. Working in your home provides a familiar safe environment with the child able to move in and out of activities as their interest and concentration permits.

 

Hands Only can also visit Child Care centres who include a deaf child from 0 to 5 years old. We can help with basic sign needs for peers and /or staff to communicate with a deaf child through a range of fun activities.

 

Sessions for staff can be face to face or via Zoom with 5 sessions for 5 weeks or 5 sessions in one week during the school holidays by negotiation.

 

Hands Only wants to see the deaf child being fully included in child care and developing age appropriate language before going to school.

 

Suggested topics include; Colour, Weather, Clothes, Feelings and Animals.
